Janet Scagnelli Residency in FRANCE
“Thank you so much for your gift of the grant. I decided when I arrived in Paris for 2 months, that I would buy museum tickets to the many museums, and a year membership to the Louvre (which allowed me to walk in with no lines at all, and go many times, finding obscure rooms where I would be alone to contemplate amazing pieces of art. And it’s air-conditioned!) I visited Sennelier, many times, and bought beautiful watercolor pots of paint from Japan. Outdoor food markets, medieval tapestry factory, churches, department stores, the Seine - all of this made Paris feel like a giant museum to me. I had an Open Studio evening, where the doors of the Citè are open to the public and the other 300 artist residents, to visit our living spaces/studios. That was nerve wracking and exhilarating.”
