Exciting news from Hawaii, Jared Wickware, IAA-USA Regional Director:    The Hawaiian state legislature was poised to eliminate the 1% fee paid by developers of any new project to a state arts fund that distributed that considerable income to arts organizations, public art work, arts education, grants to individual artists, etc.  That money was key to supporting a state public arts program that could (and maybe should) be a model for the rest of the country. This was a HUGE save for arts organizations, arts non-profits, art galleries, public art museums and individual artists in Hawaii.  Jared was instrumental in making this happen.

Lilli Muller: An Immersive Installation, works on paper and videos of the Mandala Project Series by Lilli Muller

Location:Chiostro Madonna Dell/Orto Venezia /Italy

Opening Reception: Friday April 15, 5pm-8pm

Daily Operations:Monday – Sunday: 10am - 6pm, Closed Tuesdays

Dates:April 15 – July 15, 2022 – Closed for Private event May 1-8, 2022

Inspired by the Renaissance master Jacopo Tintoretto’s groundbreaking “Last Supper,” the Los Angeles, CA-based    international artist Lilli Mullerhas created this large-scale site-specific installation “The Global Supper”here in the cloister courtyard next to the Chiesa Madonna Dell’Orto, where Tintoretto is laid to rest.

As we are experiencing the most violent attack on democracy, humanity and freedom since WWII, the urgency demands for every country to take a seat at the table.

This exhibition serves as a contemplation to work together in solidarity to find workable solutions for peace, sustainability and healing of our planet, individually, globally, environmentally and economically. The inspiration for this piece is in response to wars, global diaspora, environmental disasters, hunger and an ever increasing refugee crisis, triggered by worldwide inequality, climate change and the accelerating speed of exploitation of people, land and the planet as a whole.

The dinner table:Inspired by “The Last Supper” groundbreaking painting by Italian Renaissance artist Jacopo Tintoretto, a master of his art, artist Lilli Muller is setting the stage in the magnificent Chiesa Madonna Dell’Orto’s three-sided courtyard with wide hallways flanked by brick and framed by beautiful arches, long dining tables draped in deep purple velvet are set with 195+ unique place-settings, each representing the countries in the world invited to attend. Place-settings consist of a dinner plate, a wine glass filled with red wine to the level referring to each country’s GDP.  The plate and wine glass sit on a hem-stitched white linen place mat with an emblem representing each country.

Humanity will be served on each plate in the form of a denim face mask stretched over the dinner plate (denim, representing the working class of each country) and randomly placed with its individual word describing Humanity embroidered onto them. A table card will contrast the countries by population, environment, hunger and other statistics.

The Walls:The surrounding ancient brick walls exhibit a series of drawings: hands, eyes, and

masked faces - adding an emotional charge to the Global Supper installation.

Videos: Lilli will be presenting short documentaries of her past 5 Mandala Projects staged in Venice /Italy, Los Angeles, and the Desert at Joshua Tree National Monument.

“I believe that environments activated by the arts by producing large-scale art projects with sensitivity and equitability that reflect the value of its citizens, create empowered people and communities.”

My work explores the dynamics of the human condition, while addressing the motives behind our actions, emotions, movements and societal issues. Getting people engaged and experiencing the art physically offers a different awareness and a better understanding while mirroring their own life experiences. It’s no longer simply about the artwork itself, but the personal impact it has on each individual, and any further change it causes. This inspires me to continue making art with the people, for the people and about the people.”  WE ARE HUMANITY!

She is a Louisiana Cajun living in the greater Los Angeles area. Her first water drop painting was exhibited in the New Orleans Museum of Art in 1967 when it was called Delgado Museum. This is her third Japanese exhibition in three years but not her first international exhibit. www.longshadowstudio.com

Dan Fisher: The news is I am still working on a now 6 year project to create large scale landscapes of our amazing natural heritage. The paintings (from 6’x9’ to 7’x14’), are often drawn from National and State Parks, but can be from anywhere I find a dramatic and compelling composition. Sometimes even in my own back yard. I’ve completed 8 works of such places as Acadia, Teton, Big Sur and Zion. This adds to about 12 previous works completed over the past 48 years. All are constructed from a focus on an altered form of linear perspective that connects us to our reality as opposed disconnecting us, as conventional linear perspective does. Few people realize how important, historically, linear perspective was in establishing pure scientific investigation. It was the birth of the “objective viewpoint”. Obviously the “subjective” becomes suppressed. Not so for me. What I have experienced over the years is so connected that, at times, it became terrifying. But that was some time ago. More like exhilarating now. My next trip will be to LA to explore Big Sur again, Joshua Tree or the Bristlecone Pines in the White Mountains, the choice depending on the weather. Can’t wait!

Carl Patow’s solo exhibition at Artspace in Richmond, Virginia, features a flock of digital images of plastic pink flamingos. The exhibition, ending March 19, 2022, entices viewers with lyrical, vibrant “flamingos” on mono-pod legs, but challenges them to consider the effects of rising sea levels on migratory birds. The images’ brilliant color is accentuated by their being printed on aluminum panels. The plastic flamingo motif is repeated on draped cotton sateen, creating a rhythmic backdrop to the sculptural standing flamingos. The work is frequently described as having a musical quality, as if a movement from a symphony. All the 17 images in the show were derived from a handful of digital photographs of a wooden tub with nesting flamingo yard ornaments at a Richmond hardware store.

Congratulations to member Eloy Torrez for his recent release: Excited to let you know that I have finally released my first song, titled "Wednesday's Hope". One of ten songs that were recorded in 2005 after the completion of a mural at Hollywood High. Decided to debut this  song first as it references art school days and the surreal adventures we encounter with the passing of time. I selected five from the ten and will release one every couple of months. I hope you will give it a listen and the song takes you to a pleasant place and brings you a moment of joy, if it does please share with your family, friends etc, and help spread the vibe.

The song is available now on all streaming platforms.

Congratulations to member Maureen J. Haldeman for her solo exhibition, “Defining Shadows”.

Happy Holidays from Edem Elesh Fine Art and GDCA!

In lieu of the Annual Arroyo Arts Collective Artwalk this year, GDCA and I are having a Holiday Sale! We are offering original mixed media on aluminum, oil pastels (both framed and unframed), mixed media on wood, and more! With social distancing enforcements in place, and galleries suffering as a result, this is a perfect time to collect art- virtually. Please consider collecting and supporting my fine art and, in turn, Gloria Delson Contemporary Arts. Doing this is easy: visit https://www.edem-art.com, and make an offer on anything you may see. We are offering art at AAC Artwalk prices! All offers will be considered! There are some beautiful on-site outdoor oil pastels on archival canvas card for sale that would make wonderful holiday gifts in this time of curfew, physical distancing, and limited access to public spaces.
Many of my mixed on aluminum works have taken on a new relevance and resonance in these times of travel ban. So, check it out, and we look forward to you adding stunning original art to your holiday celebrations and collections! Free shipping/delivery on everything.
